M365 - SharePoint Online - Error - "Access to this Web site has been blocked"
M365 - SharePoint Online - Error - "Access to this Web site has been blocked"

Hi All,

Greetings for the day !!!

Today new small issue and resolution !

Background :

  • Suddenly our SharePoint Online Intranet site home page stopped working
  • We are getting an error – “Access to this Web site has been blocked
  • When we tested other pages we realise that our other pages and system pages are working
  • One observation is – pages on which we have custom client side components (SPFx WebParts / Extensions) – those pages are breaking – same error – “Access to this Web site has been blocked”
  • After some time we also realise that we also couldn’t add the app to any site
  • This behavior is happening for all sites – existing sites, recently created sites or even new sites which we are creating
  • Since we have 80,000 + users this issue become very critical for us
  • Again to solve this small issue it took good amount of our time so sharing. SHARING IS CARING !

Issue :

  • Whenever we try to access the pages where we have custom client side components getting an below error OR whenever we try to add app on any site

fig : M365 – SharePoint Online – Error – “Access to this Web site has been blocked”
  • Please not the URL – /_layouts/15/appStore.aspx#/myApps?entry=SettingAddAnApp – while adding App on the page
  • It seems to be tenant level issue

Solution :

  • We verified activities which happened in last few days on tenant but no luck
  • We verified Storage Quota of few sites and those seems to be OK
  • After putting lots of thoughts we thought to verify our AppCatalog site
  • When we try to access “AppCatalog” site we are getting an
M365 - SharePoint Online - Error - "403 FORBIDDEN" error for "AppCatalog" site
fig : M365 – SharePoint Online – Error – “403 FORBIDDEN” error for “AppCatalog” site
  • We verified all the permissions and those are in place
  • Then we realised that “AppCatalog” site might be locked
  • We verified with SharePoint Online Management Shell as
M365 - SharePoint Online -"AppCatalog" site is locked
fig : M365 – SharePoint Online -“AppCatalog” site is locked
  • So finally, we unlocked this site and situation is normal 🙂
