Hi All,
Greetings for the day π LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL π
Scanning through the M365 Message center (https://admin.microsoft.com/source=applauncher#/MessageCenter/:/messages/MC264095) for major updates and found this regarding Guest access setting behavior in Microsoft Teams. Since this is major and very important update for the organizations which uses Teams and Guest Access is allowed so sharing π
Details :
Current Behavior :
- When we turn Teams Guest access OFF for our organization, guests canβt access Teams
- Guests are removed from all Teams they have access
- Guests are not removed from the Microsoft 365 groups that are associated with the Teams and guests still have access to other Microsoft 365 group services such as SharePoint
- If you turn Teams guest access ON again, guests in Microsoft 365 groups will be re-added to the associated teams and have again access
Updating “Guest access” settings for Microsoft Teams from M365 admin center : To update “Guest access” setting for Microsoft Teams from Microsoft 365 admin center, navigate to => Microsoft 365 admin center >> Settings >> Org settings >> Microosft Teams. As shown in below fig.

New / Updated Behavior :
- When we turn OFF Teams Guest Access in our tenant, Microsoft Teams will continue to block guests from accessing Teams
- But now these guests will not be removed from the teams
- Since guests are not removed, they are still visible to users in teams and channels and can be @mentioned
- If we turn Teams guest access ON again, guests in teams will regain access
- When guest access is turned OFF, no new guests can be added to Teams
