BackUp File Share
In our last article, we have discussed a lot on BackUp and Restore file share. We have also discussed how to do it from Recovery service Vault. In File Share itself has option to take backup and restore from the backup. Without taking much time, let’s go through the following steps.
Step 1 – Sign in to your subscription in the Azure portal.
Step 2 – Navigate to the File Share, for which we want to take backup as showing in the following figure, I have on overview page of “manas-file-share” .
Step 3 – Select BackUp under Operation section in the left menu. It will open Backup pane. In the Backup pane, first we need to select our vault from Recovery Service Vault dropdown list. In our case, during our last demo, we have configured one vault and also we had register the vault with our current selected storage account. So now there is nothing to do, that’s why it automatically grade it out for us.

If we have multiple storage account under same region as our Vault, it will allow to select another storage account to register as showing in the following figure.

If the Region of our selected storage account differ from the region of Vault then in that case it will not allow to select the vault instead it will ask to create a new vault s showing in the following figure.

Step 4 – As we saw there is nothing for us to configure the Recovery Service Vault the next to configure “Choose backup policy”. here let’s create a new policy. To create new policy, click on Create new policy link and it will open Create Policy pane as showing in the following figure. After set the required value as per the requirement click OK button to create the policy.

Step 4 – Once we done with the configuration click Enable Backup to finish the configuration and will notify once deployment is done as showing in the following figures.

Step 5 – After the completion of the configure backup operation, select Backup under the Operations section of the file share pane. The context pane listing Vault Essentials will load on the right. From there, we can trigger on-demand backup by clicking Backup Now option. The same thing we did in our last demo for initial backup. Because initially it is o pending state as showing in the figure.

Step 6 – Set the value for Retain Backup Till and click Ok to start taking backup.

Now if we see in the following figure, the last backup status is Success and it stored the backup as a snapshot. We can see this on Snapshots pane.

Restore File Share
In our last article, we have seen how to restore file share in original location. In this article how to restore file share in an alternate location. Here we will restore the file share in “manas-ps-file-share” . As we can see in the following figure, there are only two items in the target file share, one is folder and other one is a file. We will see later after the restore operation, if there is any changes in numbers of files in this file share. Let’s go through the following steps to restore the file share.

Step 1 – Navigate to the File Share, where we have taken backup. Click Backup from left menu under Operations. It will open Backup page from there select Restore Share option. In our last article we have seen how to restore using File Recovery.

Step 2 – From Restore page, first select Restore Point . The Select Restore Point context pane opens on the right, listing the restore points available for the selected file share. Select the restore point we want to use to perform the restore operation, and click OK.

Step 3 – Select Alternate Location as the Recovery Destination. Select the destination storage account where we want to restore the backed-up content from the Storage Account drop-down list.
Step 4 – The Select File Share drop-down list displays the file shares present in the storage account we selected in above step. Select the file share where we want to restore the backed-up contents.
Step 5 – In the Folder Name box, specify a folder name we want to create in the destination file share with the restored contents. I kept it empty because I want my files should be go to the root.
Step 6 – Select whether to skip or overwrite if there are conflicts. After you enter the appropriate values in all boxes, click Restore to start the restore operation.

In the following figure we can see the the restoring process is going on. We can also see the complete information of source and destination of transaction.

Now the restore successfully done s showing in the following figure.

As we can see in the following figure, our restore operation successes. We can see all files restored from the other file share.

I hope this is informative to you. Please let me know if I missed anything important or if my understanding is not up to the mark. Keep reading, share your thoughts, experiences. Feel free to contact us to discuss more.
